Appearance: Winry is an average height- about 5'4"- with long blonde hair and expressive blue eyes. She is a cheerful person, and is often seen with a smile on her face. Her face often shows extreme joy when she is near anything mechanical. She is not one who hides her emotions, but wears her heart on her sleeve.

Her work clothes usually consist of a lavender-blue loose-fitting jumpsuit, with the top half usually not worn, sleeves tied around her waist. On the top is nothing more than a black strapless bra. When she's working, she unties the sleeves and wears the jumpsuit properly; she also ties a pink bandanna over her hair to keep it back. On days when she doesn't work, Winry will wear something nicer, a sun dress if the weather is nice. However, since she loves her work so much, those days are rare.

She has four piercings in her right ear and two in her left ear.

Personality: Winry is a very optimistic person, always looking on the bright side of situations. She hates it when those around her are feeling blue, and will always do the best she can to make them happy again. She has a very warm, compassionate disposition, so those she wants to help find it hard to refuse her kindness, even if they initially tried to resist it. It also helps that she is a rather stubborn, determined young woman- not only does it make her sad to see others in the dumps, but if they try to resist her sunny warmth, she may hit them over the head and tell them to get happy or else.

Besides her arm and giving personality, Winry is also extremely intelligent and extraordinarily talented in mechanics. She has a natural gift for the craft, and is quite passionate about it as well. She will go absolutely gaga over new technology, barely resisting the urge to take them apart, see its inner workings, and then put it back together again. Winry is also very ambitious and rather competitive when it comes to automail mechanics, always looking for ways to improve her craft, and never one to turn down an opportunity to show off her work. She's very proud of the work she does, both for the mechanics, and also because what she does she genuinely believes make peoples' lives better.

As her parents were both doctors who, during the Ishbal civil war, treated patients regardless of which side they fought on, Winry feels that she too must do what she can to heal people. While she has a slight medical background (having helped herself to some of her parents' medical texts), she knows that the best way she can contribute to peoples' lives is by replacing limbs they have lost, especially from the war. Though she may not say it, in a way Winry sees her work as picking up from where her parents left off.

Abilities/Strengths: Winry's main ability involves making and repairing automail prosthetics. She loves machines in general, and loves to take them apart and put them back together. She's pretty good about putting them back together (and sometimes she can't resist trying to improve the machines when she reconstructs them.) The trick is getting her hands on the machine in the first place- some people might be wary of letting her near the machine once they see her enthusiasm for it.

She has great hand-eye coordination, a skill honed by working with so many tiny parts. Winry also shows off this skill when throwing wrenches at Edward's head (only when he's bad, and anyway, he's got such a thick skull sometimes, he probably doesn't even feel it.)

Winry also has limited medical knowledge- as a child and even now, she will read through some of her parents' medical books. She understands the basics of human anatomy, and would be able to take care of minor injuries. Being a mechanic who deals with prosthetics, she understands a lot about the human nervous system too, since the most complicated and painful type of prosthetic- the automail one, the one Edward has- involves attatching the wires to the body's nerves, and so she needs that kind of medical knowledge in order to perform these kinds of surgeries.

Weaknesses: Her main weakness is Edward and Alphonse, whom she regards as brothers. They grew up together, lost parents together, and as she was the oldest, she always felt a sense of responsibility for them. She worries for them, and gets easily upset when it is clear something is troubling them, and yet they won't share their problems with her. This will make her angry with them when they shut her out, but her anger is only masking her hurt. Why don't they tell her when they're involved in something dangerous? Knowing beforehand would be better than finding out after.

She's also weak around new technology that she's never seen before- she is prone to squeeing over it and trying to take it apart. She only wants to see how it works and then put it together herself, but for those who don't know her, that may not seem like a good idea. Winry would be easy to fool if one tempted her with some new and shiny machinery.

She can be proud at times, especially when it comes to her work. She knows she has much to learn about automail still, but she still prides herself on doing a very good job. She will never turn down an opportunity to show off her craftsmanships and will get very insulted if one does not recognize the quality of her work.

Elrics in general are a weakness. She keeps falling for them: first Edward when they were younger, then William (Ed and Al's half-brother, or the homunculous formally known as Envy.)

History: Winry was born and raised in Resembool, a small village in Amestris. Her parents, both doctors, left home when she was young to aid the wounded in the Isbal Civil War. They never returned.

So, she grew up with her grandmother, Pinako. Often she would play with the Elric brothers; when not at play, she learned automail mechanics from Pinako. Just as Ed and Al were alchemic prodigies, Winry was similarly adept at mechanics: she was both naturally gifted and incredibly interested in the craft.

A few years after her parents' deaths, Edward and Al lost their mother, and soon after left, Winry lost them. They had left to get alchemic training with a stranger who lived in another town. The brothers returned a year later, and one night soon after, they showed up on Winry's doorstep, Edward covered in blood and Al an empty suit of armor. She and Pinako bandaged Ed up and took care of him for a few days, when a man named Mustang showed up at their home. After that, Ed asked them to give him automail limbs- a painful process as it involved reconnecting nerves to wires and attaching metal sockets to his body. Winry assissted Pinako in the surgery, and was the main one to help him through his recuperation. After he felt recovered enough from his surgery, he and Alphonse burned their house down and left for Central.

Winry heard from them some months later, when Edward passed the military exam to become a State Alchemist. she traveled to Central to surprise the boys, but while she waited for them outside of the military headquarters, she got distracted by a refridgerated truck, and was subsequently abducted by the owner of that truck- a serial killer named Barry who had been chopping up women in Central. She was rescued by the military and didn't show any signs of being too scarred from the event- at least, she was not as affected as Edward was.

Soon after her visit with the Elrics, they had to leave Central for their first mission, so Winry returned to Resembool. She did not see them for three years.

When she saw them again, they came home in pieces. Edward's prosthetic arm was busted and Al's armor was destroyed. After hitting them on their heads for their stupidity, Winry and Pinako fix Ed back up, so he can put all back together. It is during this visit that Winry discovers Edward's pocket watch and sees the inscription inside, learning that Edward had meant to never return to Resembool. She tried to get Ed to open up to her, but he refused, unwilling oir unable to communicate.

So they left only a few days later. Winry thought it would be an eternity before she would see Ed or Al again...but one night a few days later, she found a screw she forgot to put in Ed's arm. Serendipitously the next day she got a phone call from Ed, asking her to come into Central to perform some maintenance on his arm. She again found them falling apart, and not just physically. Something was going on between Edward and Al, though what it was Ed didn't seem to know. Ed confessed to Winry that he thought Al might hate him for what he did to his body, but that he was too afraid to ask his brother. She tried to help him talk to Al, but then Alphonse surprisingly accused Ed of creating Al, that he himself never existed. Winry tried to help the two reconcile, and they did, soon afterwards.

During this trip to Central, Winry met Maes Hughes and his family: his wife Gracia and their daughter Elysia. The little girl adopted Winry as an older sister, and over time, she would come to see them as a part of her family.

Once Edward and Al were whole again, they decided to head out to Ishbal, sure that there might be some clue to obtaining the Philosopher's Stone there. Winry insisted they take her with them, since their trip took them past Rush Valley- the mecha of automail mechanics. When they arrived there, Winry made friends with an amputee named Paninya and met the automail mechanic Dominic, from whom she wishes to learn. He refuses to teach her, so she continues with Ed and Al on their journey- now with a new destination: Dublith. Their teacher found them in Rush Valley and practically drags the two of them back home with her.

During their time in Dublith, they find a lost child on Yock Island, whom Izumi Curtis immediately accepts into her household. Winry helps take care of the boy, even going so far as to assist him with his bath. She feels sorry for the lost boy, especially when Ed seems so hostile to him. When she discovers that Wrath has Ed's missing limbs, she still wants to stop Ed and Al from trying to take those limbs back. Back on Yock Island, when they fight Wrath, she tries to get Ed and Al to stop the violence.

After this, Alphonse is kidnapped by Greed. Izumi and Edward go to rescue him, and things happen that winry is left in the dark about. Once the brothers return, though, they decide to travel to Ishbal, as they believe there might be information for them there. On the way, they encountered a train taking Ishbalans to a camp, and while Ed and Al asked them for information, Winry went out and obtained a truck for them to travel in. Soon enough they reached the town the two Ishbalan boys that are their guides direct them to. There, Ed and Al searched for an old man who may have information on creating the Stone; Winry waited with the boys, and found out from them that Roy Mustang killed her parents. When she learned this, she decided to go to Central.

When she arrived in Central, she goes to visit Maes Hughes, only to learn that he was killed while she was away. She went to visit his grave and there encountered Sheska. Sheska told Winry about how she's investigating Hughes' death. The two of them conspired to tap into the Furher's telephone line and listen in on his conversation, until some strange water creature (who greatly resembles Ed and Al's mother) attacked them. Realizing that they are in danger, they decided to hide in Resembool.

They arrived in Resembool just in time- soon after Winry's return home, Ed and Al arrived, needing to hide from the military. They are kept hidden in the basement when the miliatry chasing the Elrics' arrive. Afterwards, Edward and Alphonse leave for Central, explaining that they are close to finding the truth. Winry didn't want to see them go, but knew they had to.

That was the last she saw of Edward for five years.

About a month after they left, Alphonse suddenly returned home- with him were a pair of brothers (Russell and Fletcher Tringham), and Wrath. Winry gave the homunculous new limbs, and took care of Al until he was healthy again. Once he regained his health, he decided to go back to Izumi and learn more alchemy from her. He told Winry that he wanted to find Ed, that his brother was out there, alive, somewhere.

Soon after Al left home, Winry did too. Part of it was to take her mind off of Edward; the other was that she knew she had to get on with her life. She had been waiting for them for too long. So she returned to Rush Valley, where Dominic referred her to another mechanic. She became his apprentice there for two years, until Dominic finally accepted her as a pupil, and taught her even more about automail mechanics.

After three and a half fulfulling years, Winry went to Central and opened up a shop there, where she specialized in automail mechanics- both repairs and surgeries- as well as odd machinery repair. When she first arrived in Central, she stayed with Sheska for awhile, before finding a place on her own, once business picked up. She stayed in close contact with Gracia and Elysia Hughes, as well as Sheska. Occassionally she would visit with Hawkeye and the others, but not often. Without Edward around, it just felt strange to socialize with them.

Five years after Edward's disappearance, and one and a half years after Winry started living in Central, he returned, bring Hohenheim and William with him. No one knew where or how he'd returned, only that he had. Winry was delighted to see him, and took Ed and the rest into her home for awhile. She provided Edward with new prosthetics, and took care of the others, especially William, who seemed in particularly poor health. Once Edward returned with Al to Resembool, and Hohenheim found his own place, Winry found herself spending more and more time with William.

William was revealed to be Edward and Alphonse's half-brother, though later on he would tell Winry that he used to be the homunculous known as Envy. Winry accepted him despite that, and determined to help him learn what it meant to be human again, as he'd lost his shape-shifting ability when passing through the Gate.

After about a six month friendship, Winry and William declared themselves as a couple. It was Winry who ended up asking William out on a date, as he missed all the clues she sent him that she liked him. They've been going out for almost half a year when Winry, one day, is pulled from her workshop into Econtra.
